Annie Laura Coughlin, a first grade teacher in the Marshfield Public Schools for more than thirty (30) years died Thursday evening, August 29, 2013, after a lengthy struggle with Parkinson’s disease, at the Radius Healthcare and Pediatric Center in Plymouth. She was 83 years old. A graduate of Boston University and Bridgewater State University, Mrs. Coughlin held a Master’s Degree in elementary education, most of the credits for which she earned in night school. Mrs. Coughlin retired from teaching in 1992. In her thirty-one (31) years at the South River School, she became widely known for the innovative and personalized teaching programs she developed for her more than 1,750 students.
She leaves her husband of 56 years, William P. Coughlin of Marshfield, Massachusetts; her son James M. Coughlin of Bothell, WA; her daughter, Donna Lecuyer of Lillington, NC and numerous grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, Alfred Lupton of Arapahoe, NC and John Lupton of Wilmington, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Esther Marie Kane of New Bern, NC.
Her wake will be held Wednesday, September 4th, between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139 in Marshfield, MA.
